“The most important advice I could give to anyone considering a career in agriculture education is that for your first few years, you should go to teach in another place do not teach in your hometown,” he said. “I was a teacher for two years in Southwest Alabama for two years and it was the most rewarding decision I’ve ever made because I was there by myself and was required to complete the task. I developed a lot over the two years, and when I came back slowly to the classroom, it made me a much better teacher than when I came straight out of high school.”

“He has given me many doors and opened doors to me”, she added. “I have had the opportunity to meet people who have helped me get places. My perception and the perspective of the people I’ve met have changed dramatically, and it has greatly made a difference in my quality of life.”
Natalie was enrolled in an agriculture course during her first year in high school due to her passion for animals. It was a surprise to her that she would become a successful livestock judge two years later.
“Natalie has been watching her growth from being an eighth grader to the point she is today is truly amazing,” Ben said. “This girl is among the best livestock judges across the country. Beginning with nothing to where she is right now — it’s been an absolute pleasure to witness.”
Because Ben influenced Natalie’s life, she decided to pursue an embryology degree through Mississippi State University upon graduating high school.
“I am looking to breed sheep and cattle and run my own operation of show-quality animals,” she said.
