Reading Academy Trials

Let us look into a brief enlightenment about the Reading Fc before going into the Reading Academy Scholarship.

Since its establishment in the summer of 1999, the Reading FC Academy has produced several outstanding football players. With an emphasis on blending football prowess with creating diligent, modest individuals off the field—qualities that were entrenched under Eamonn Dolan’s direction during his tenure as academy manager. Through the Royals’ Academy, even those who decide against a career in football may be sure to have a solid education.

The players who have graduated from our Academy and moved up to play first-team football in a Reading shirt are listed below as of this writing.

The club does not currently hold open tryouts, but on occasion, players are allowed in for up to an eight-week trial period.

Send as much information about a player’s playing history, including a schedule for the team they are now playing for, to our recruitment department at the email address listed below if you would want Reading Football Club to keep an eye out for them. The hiring department may then choose to dispatch a scout to observe the player.

The recruitment department can be contacted directly with complete information about a child’s playing history, but it’s also feasible for us to identify talented kids through our Community Trust programs.

A player may be invited to spend time at one of our Development Centers, which are held throughout the region if one of our coaches or scouts spots them at a soccer school or school club. The most gifted players are then given the opportunity to join the Academy’s Elite Centre, which is held at the Select Car Leasing Stadium once a week for boys between the ages of 7 and 13, and successful Elite Centre graduates are then given the opportunity to join their Academy age group after passing a trial.

How To Get Scouted For Reading Academy Scholarship

Scouts from the Reading Academy Scholarship offer players the chance to try out. Reading FC is well aware that talented players can slip through the cracks while scouts are watching matches, so they give prospects the chance to contact them directly using the information below. Athletes are occasionally fortunate enough to be in the right places at the right times while scouts are watching matches. Although they are unlikely to respond to every submission given the volume, this is a good way to let scouts know about players looking to advance their careers and secure a trial with the Reading FC Academy. The following are the things Reading FC Academy will need to scout you for a trial:

  • Curriculum Vitae of the Player
  • The Cover Letter
  • Essential information about each player includes their name, age, birthday, height, weight, contact information (email, phone, address), current club, and prior clubs.
  • Information about any trials they have already attended, and any representative honors they may have received from their school, district, county, etc.
  • Send scouts the schedule of games played by your current team, including the location and kickoff time.

Send Reading FC Academy an email at [email protected] once you have acquired all of the necessary information. Your request will be examined by the Reading FC Academy, who will then decide whether or not to send a scout to the game.

Former members of the club’s junior training program include Andy Williams, Scott Taylor, and potential England international Neil Webb. 52 alumni have played first-team football for Reading since the Academy’s creation in 1999, including Gylfi Sigurdsson, who was later traded for a club-record transaction fee.

The Background

The Football Association accredited Reading Academy in February 1999. Prior to joining Preston North End in October 2000, John Stephenson served as the club’s first Academy manager and was in charge of the youth program. His replacement was Nick Hammond, a former Reading goalkeeper who was also a goalkeeping tutor at the time.

After being appointed Reading’s first Director of Football in September 2003, Hammond combined all three roles. Until Eamonn Dolan, manager of Exeter City was chosen to lead the Academy in October 2004. Before building its permanent practice area at Arborfield’s Hogwood Park in 2004, the club had used leased facilities at Sonning Lane and Bradfield College.

The club and Boreham Wood Academy signed a two-year agreement sometime in July 2012, with the goal of having 50% of academy players play for the first team. The club had to find a new practice space in an effort to meet the criteria for Category One categorization when the Elite Player Performance Plan’s four-tier academy structure was put in place in 2012. (EPPP).

The club and Bearwood Lakes Golf Club reached an agreement in May 2013 to pay between £10 million and £20 million for the site needed to build a new practice facility. In July 2013, the club was classified as Category One.

Additionally

Prior to playing in The Football Combination from 1998 to 2006, with the exception of the 1999–2000 season, the Reading substitutes competed in the Capital League from 1995 to 1998. In line with the senior side’s advancement to the Premier League in 2006, the reserve team was elevated to the Premier Reserve League for the 2006–07 campaign. After finishing first in the Southern Division and defeating Bolton Reserves 2-0 in their debut season under probable first-team manager Brian McDermott, the reserves took home the overall championship.

They finished second the next year but were demoted from the Premier League as the first team.

After being demoted, the reserves rejoined the Football Combination, where they remained until 2010 when they left to host their own games against the more experienced competition.

Due to the club’s bid for Category One status under the EPPP, the under-21 and Academy (under-18) squads participated in the new Professional Development League 1 for the 2012–13 season. In the first competition, the under-18s came in second place to Fulham, while the under-21s won the first U21 Premier League Cup the following season.
